![]() Please note: this will be a strenuous hike over primitive trails. If you can fit three passengers in your high-clearance, 4WD vehicle, the museum will waive the the cost of the tour. The tour will be carpooling up to the basin, so if you have a high clearance, 4WD vehicle, please bring it. Please bring a flashlight, sunscreen, extra layers, and a snack or a meal. This may be more of an adventure than a stroll. It will be steep, there will be scree, and we might get lost. The hiking portion of the outing will cover approximately 5 miles of high elevation, primitive trail. From the mine complex, the tour will embark on foot into the surrounding high country, searching for the area where Harriet Fish Backus, the “Tomboy Bride” lived in the 1910s.
